To begin, players should navigate to their Libraries in Steam, right-click on Valheim from their list of games, and select Properties. This will launch the game’s Properties interface, and fans should click on the General tab and turn their attention to the Launch Options section at the bottom. In this section, players will find a text box, which they should enter “-console” (no quotes) into before closing the Properties interface.

Valheim fans can now launch the game as they would normally, and they will again be able to use F5 to access the console when they have loaded in. However, things are not exactly as they were prior to the patch, as there is a new command that must be used in order to activate cheats. That new command is “devcommands” (no quotes), and players will receive notification that any cheats are used at their own risk after it has been entered.

With respect to the Valheim cheat commands themselves, they have not been altered with the latest update, and players can still use god to enter god mode, goto to teleport to specified locations, and beyond. That said, fans should make sure to do some serious testing with these commands before they fully incorporate them into their playthroughs. Indeed, while these cheats can be used to great benefit, they can also cause problems if they are used incorrectly, as hinted at by the aforementioned warning.

To note, this new approach to entering console commands is not the only adjustment that players will need to get used to following update 0.148.6, though most of the changes simply look to improve the overall experience. There is a tweak that may force some fans to rethink a portion of their farming strategies, though, and it is the one that cause campfires, bonfires and hearths to take damage when dealing damage. This means that it is no longer possible to use these objects to kill enemies, such as Valheim’s Greydwarves, without any maintenance, and players should plan accordingly.

Valheim is available through Steam Early Access on PC.
