After leaving the café, Shinichi goes home and sees a coupon for the gym when he checks the mail, so he decides to blow off steam at the gym. As he’s there, some guys see him going to the bench and ask if he needs a spotter. A worker spots him as he works out. Shinichi appreciates the trainer’s enthusiasm and viewers learn his name is Fuji. Before Shinichi leaves, he thinks about how the gym could be a good spot for him to get alone time since Hana wouldn’t be interested in it. Just another sign that they’re essentially dating. He needs a place for alone time as if they’re living together.

An Underwhelming Reveal

Fuji gets home and viewers learn that Fuji is Hana’s father. Although, that’s not a surprise to anyone who watches the show’s opening and has seen Fuji in the Uzaki family line-up. Fuji talks about his workday and Hana asks her mother if another cooking lesson with her senpai would be good on Thursday, which makes Fuji wonder about Hana’s senpai.

Tsuki and Hana talk Hana’s senpai up, which prompts Fuji to mention “she’ll” be a great wife someday. Unbeknownst to Fuji, Hana’s senpai is a guy. As soon as Hana mentions that, Fuji’s demeanor flips. His jolly, carefree expression changes to a deceptively happy one. He’s trying to keep a smile on his face, but with the intensity of the shading on his face and the pitch-black background behind him, it’s clear he’s anything but happy.

Next, viewers get introduced to the middle child of the Uzaki family, Yanagi Uzaki. This episode is all about filling out the Uzaki family roster. Yanagi comes into the living room to find all the family members sitting at a table in a tense atmosphere.

The Uzaki Family Meeting

Fuji starts the Uzaki family meeting, while Hana thinks to herself that she shouldn’t have mentioned anything. There’s even an agenda and the only item on the list is: Hana has a boyfriend. After some talking about Hana’s senpai and every one sides with Hana over Fuji, he gets a little comically sour.

Fuji recalls that Kiri, Hana’s younger brother, and Hana used to speak in his Kansai dialect too, not just Yanagi. Fuji mentions they can’t escape their Kansai roots. He quickly scribbles a Kansai Electrical Safety Inspection Association jingle and tells the children to read it without singing it.

Kiri tries, but immediately starts singing the jingle and finds himself surprised at how hard it is not to sing it. Fuji laughs in triumph. A nice little inside joke there for any viewers from Kansai or who know someone from Kansai.

Hana’s relieved that they got off-track because her dad is so energetic. Now viewers can see where Hana got her high energy from. Kiri jokes that there are guys out there who would even go for a petite girl like Hana, which worries him about Shinichi, but for different reasons. A little nod there to some backlash the show has gotten in the anime community about Hana’s youthful appearance and how it doesn’t correlate very well with her actual age.

Yanagi, the Firestarter

Hana throws some shade right back at Kiri and mentions he should save it for when he’s actually past 160 centimeters. Maybe some viewers are good at measurements, especially off the top of their heads, but for other viewers, who definitely had to rely on Google, it’s about 5’2.

Yanagi brings it back to the topic of Hana’s boyfriend again by asking how tall he is. At this point, this middle Uzaki child is either deceptively provoking or naively air-headed. Hana mentions that she thinks Shinichi said he was 180 centimeters. Yanagi exclaims that’s huge and says it’s a big size difference. Yuji and Kiri stand over on the side, regretting being shorter as Yanagi thinks about how the short men are in it together. Yanagi is secretly a savage, and she’s here for the drama.

Fuji changes the topic and asks Hana about Shinichi’s qualities. Yanagi eagerly awaits the info dump like a child waiting to tear through presents on Christmas morning. Hana mentions that Shinichi is respectable and rattles off a few of his other character traits like how little he drinks and how serious he can sometimes be. Then, she makes a horrible mistake.

She slips up and mentions that he keeps his place clean. Instantly everyone realizes, she’s been over to his place. Everyone’s face has either a look of fear or shock. She tries to backpedal and mentions she just goes to hang out. They play video games, and she cooks for him sometimes. Tsuki mentions she thought their relationship had escalated further than that. Hana finally reveals that they’re not dating.

Her siblings jump up and pelt her with questions before genuinely wondering “what is she doing?” They’re really speaking for the viewers at this point. Hana uses the excuse again that her senpai is just a pitiful loner, so she’s keeping him company for his sake. Fuji exclaims she must love her senpai, but she denies it.

Hana leaves her argument with Fuji to go take a bath. Now Fuji gets frustrated that Shinichi hasn’t made a move on Hana yet since it seems his daughter isn’t good enough. Tsuki thinks about how if Shinichi isn’t interested in Hana, maybe he’s interested in just her alone. The Uzaki family meeting has just left the Uzaki clan utterly confused.

Once again, Uzaki-Chan Wants to Hang Out! gave viewers an interesting episode to watch. This one was arguably one of the more humorous ones of the second season so far and the full Uzaki family was finally introduced. Additionally, this was a step in the right direction for Hana confronting her feelings for Shinichi and viewers got to see the dynamics within the Uzaki household. In the end, there wasn’t much progress, but it was amusing and Yanagi might be the trouble starter everyone was waiting for.
