In many situations, an agent will help assure that their athlete is tested following a record-setting run. Coburn does not have an agent. Bob Hersh, USATF’s record keeper for men and women, called the testing a pretty “well-known” procedure.

The New Balance sponsored athlete issued the following statement on her Facebook page:

Coburn was an Olympic finalist at the 2012 Summer Games in London, where she finished ninth in a personal best of 9:23.54. After winning the NCAA title at Colorado and signing a professional contract, she was sidelined for the 2013 outdoor campaign with a lower back injury.

Upon her return in 2014, she dropped her personal best to 9:11.42 with five races under 9:20. If her progression continues, she should regain the American Record with ease in 2015.
